Snetterton - A Stunning Ride.......................................................................................................................Back To Reports and News
21st June 2009
After missing round 4 at Thruxton, it was time for us to head to Round 5 at Snetterton in Norfolk.
I knew the road!
I pasted the circuit the week before to have the Data Logger fitted at ‘Track Electronics’ John from the company came along on Friday to finalise the installation and get everything calibrated.
With our trips to Aintree we sort of knew the set-up we were looking for and we were not far of the mark and in ‘Free Practice’ Alex lay in P6 for a while before dropping to P13 by the end of the session.
Thanks to the info gained, we were able to make a few subtle adjustments to the bike before taking to the track for Q1 and Alex went even quicker a 1:08.522 his fastest lap of the weekend hitting an incredible 173.8 mph down the ‘revett straight’.
Friday over and onto Saturday where Alex was only out on track once for Q2.
Unfortunately the weather broke and the track was very wet for the session only 19 of the entered riders went our in the session and no one went quicker so it was the highest start position for Alex this year when he lined up for Sundays Race.
It was a long wait for his race slot at 5pm and the rain held off, even getting brighter as the race progressed.
Alex put up another very good account of himself in the race.
A good start saw him in 8th as they entered ‘Russell’s’ for the first time and he was very lucky not to be taken out by Daniel Hegarty when he pushed under Alex too fast and crashed into the back of Luke Quigley, although Luke managed to stay on Dan crashed out in front of Alex.
The following pack stayed on and missed the downed rider but it gave the leading pack a bit of a gap from the chasing 6 riders of Alex, Connor Cummings, Sam Warren, BJ Toal, James Hillier and Marshal Neil.
Alex led this pack for the next 5 laps when Connor, took over the chase but Alex regained the position after another 2 laps and again led the pack for another 4 laps.
On the 12th lap James Hillier took over the lead and although by now there was a 14 second gap to the leader off the race, there was nothing between Alex 14.456 Marshal 14.485 and Connor 14.788 as they crossed the start finish line.
Now I was watching as usual from pit lane, I could see them return back into view as the left ‘the boom hole’ and entered ‘Coram’, Alex was back in the lead of the group and as they entered ‘Russells’ I lost sight of them but regained it as they entered the Start / finish straight …….
No Alex!
I jumped off the pit wall, back into pit lane to get a better view of ‘Russell’s’ still no Alex, then I caught sight of him racing up the straight.
He had out braked himself, ran wide onto the rumble strip and grass losing 4 places in the process.
He finished a great race in 12th place 2 laps later.
A stunning ride from him.
