Oulton Park - Harley Davidson UK Man of the Meeting........................................Back To Reports and News
5th May 2010
Carluke racer Alex Gault had his first race on board The Stratstone Racing Harley Davidson XR1200 last weekend at Oulton Park in Cheshire in the Inagural XR1200 championship which runs as a support race to The British Superbike Championship.
It is fair to say that Alex is an underdog in this series as he is racing against many legends of the sport including former moto gp man Jeremy Mcwilliams, Shaun Emmett, Mike Edwards and Dave Wood.
Many of whom were winning championships before the teenager was even born.
Stratstone racing who are the largest UK Harley Davidson dealership had turned out a stunning looking bike for Gault.
In free practice disaster was to strike on the 5th lap whilst sitting in 4th place Gault was thrown from the machine at The Avenue, a fast downhill section of the circuit.
The bike was badly damaged however Alex walked away unscathed.
With the bike beyond repair another Stratstone rider Dave Wood who was out injured kindly let Alex use his bike.
So how would he go in qualifying after his massive crash and on a new bike which he hadn’t ridden before.
Gault amazed everyone by putting the bike on p2 on the grid just a fraction behind Mcwilliams despite missing 5 laps with a clutch problem.
The race didn't work out as planned as Gault was knocked onto the grass on the 1st lap by another rider, rejoining in 14th position. A determined performance saw him making it up to 6th place and even having a go at 4th which again put him on the grass.
For his performance Gault was named Harley Davidson UK man of the meeting.
Stratstone Racing Team manger Martin Mcillwaine said, “Alex showed a lot of courage coming back as strong after that crash and his performance this weekend has shown he will be a front runner in this championship“.
Alex is still on the look out for sponsors to help with his campaign this year.

The next race is a double-header at Mallory Park 25th - 27th June.
