Knockhill - Wet Weekend...................................................................................................................................Back To Reports and News
8th July 2010
We headed to the third round of the Harley Davidson XR1200 championship on the 2nd -4th July at Knockhill and with heavy rain forecast we feared the worst. We were right!
I always feel there is a lot of expectation on Alex to do well here although when you look at it he hasn't really had that much time round the place.
We did get a dry Saturday and I knew there was something wrong when he came in after only one lap of free practice. When he returned to the track it was clear to see his bike was slower than the others. Turns out the new map which had been put in the bike was limiting the revs to 6000 rpm, when it should rev nearer 7500.
This saw him finish the session in 7th place with a 57.962.
With map repaired he set out for qualifying and ended up 5th with a time of 56.484 behind the usual suspects of McWilliams Edwards Paterson and Gourley.
Sunday arrived and with it the heavens opened. Now the Harleys are only running dry tyres which in the wet is madness, however they did head out for morning warm up.
A lot of the more experienced riders or maybe more sensible came in after a few laps, Alex did six 6 laps and I heard that from pit wall that watching him over the crest of the straight at full tilt with the bike spinning and squirming under him was a scary sight. When he came in I asked how it was, he said, “Aye its alright”..........MAD
More rain fell which ended with almost all the races being canceled.
It has now been announced that the Brands GP round will be a double Header.
This leaves Alex sitting in 6th in championship. Not bad when you consider he is racing against an ex MOTO GP winner and a whole host of other extremely experienced riders.
I have also heard of other teams hiring out circuits to themselves for testing at a cost of 6 grand a day, lets you see what he is up against!!
Overall it is a great learning curve for Alex to be mixing it with these fellas.
Next round is a double header on the 8th of August at Brands GP.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped Alex in any way - It is very much appreciated!
Anyone looking for any info on Alex and how you can help please contact myself.
