Alex Gault 2007 - Mondello.............................................................................................................................Back To Index

We had planned as the schools were on holiday to visit friends in Ireland and take in a round of the Irish Super Bike Championship, due to Alex still having to attend Higher exams in Physical Education on the Friday afternoon and Computing on the Monday afternoon.

This supposedly short vacation to the emerald Isle, turned into a sprint to Mondello Park and back!

He had a decent first practice learning the newly resurfaced Mondello National circuit; don’t know where he came as they never posted times.

Timed qualifying and he was in 15th place on the grid for the first race which he was not pleased with!

In Saturdays race he had a fairly good one finishing 8th you could see he was getting more familiar with the track commenting that other riders were taking a strange line through a particular corner which he started using as it made for a faster time round the following corner…………you’d think he could have sussed that one out himself after all this time!

Morning Warm up on the Sunday and 6th fastest, and really holding station with the front runners in yesterdays race.

As time came close for the first race on Sunday day the heavens opened torrential down pour! (Remember this was the same day the World Super Bike race had been cancelled at Silverstone) and this included hailstones anyway in the race a cautious start never seen Alex make his way up to 8th before falling of on the 4th lap.

By the time Alex and his bike was brought back I had already packed up and was ready to leave to visit one of Alex’ Sponsors Wilbert of “Maine Motorcycles” where both Alex and Ryan (his younger brother) enjoyed some time running round on MiniMoto’s on the “MiniMotoShop” track.

We left in the early hours to catch the boat back home for Alex to sit one of his Higher Exam’s at School.
