Alex Gault - 2006 Season.................................................................................................................................Back To Index
As the 2006 race season looms, 15 year old motorcycle racer Alex Gault prepares for another challenging year.
Over the winter Alex has been recuperating after an operation, where bone was grafted from his hip into an old injury to the scaphoid bone in his wrist & has been in plaster for nearly three months.
The consultants involved are pleased with the way things have gone and by the time you read this Alex should be back to full fitness.
In this time, the team surrounding Alex have been preparing two Honda CB 500 bikes which Alex is to use in his contention of “The CB500 Cup”. Following in the footsteps of such modern racing heroes as James Ellison (Moto Gp) and James Toseland (World Super Bike).
Both Ellison and Toseland among others moved to this 500cc class around 1998 after contending The Junior Racing Association Championship.
Alex won the JRA Championship in 2003 and 2004 and sees the move to 4 stroke machinery as a natural progression in his racing career.
With MAG SPORT being the teams “Title” sponsor to the team for the CB Cup, securing the services of Honda CB500 specialist Geoffrey Coxon and the finances for the season already in place, the stage is set for a very successful 11 round championship taking place on tracks such as Brands Hatch, Oulton, Cadwell and Donington Park.
That said and done; due to a change in the licensing rules which have just been released for 2006.
For the first time 15 year olds with National Licences will be allowed to race 400cc multi-cylinder machines which are faster and nimbler than the big 500cc twin Alex will use in the CB Cup.
Due to the fact there are no date clashes between the CB Cup and the Scottish Championships the team propose to contend both championships although we must stress this has not been finalised and are looking at other possibilities
Alex’s father commented, “we have a Honda NC35 and have started to prepare it for the coming season however there is still a mountain of work to get it competitive before we can start testing which is planned to start mid March”.
The 18 round Scottish Championship takes place at the Knockhill and East Fortune circuits throughout the summer.
Alex said, “I am very excited about being able to race back in Scotland this season.
Although I have only a limited knowledge of East Fortune and Knockhill, I am looking forward to racing the 400 and the CB500 and hopefully I’ll win both championships.”
Testing is planned to start on the 14th March with Alexs first race on the 400 following on the 9th April at Knockhill.
Then Alexs first race on the MAGSPORT Honda CB500 Kicks of at Snetterton in Norfolk on the 6th & 7th May.
Alex would like to thank MAG and all who have supported him as we look forward to hopefully a very successful years racing.
Drop in and say hello if you see us at any of the race meetings.
