Alex Gault 2005 - British Championship Round Round 9 - Silverstone August 2005...................Back To Index
Here again my incompetence cost us valuable track time, Alex had been involved in an incident in his last club race which damaged the front brake master cylinder.
When I fitted the repair kit I had made the smallest of mistakes which led to the front brake seizing on, long story but this cost us one practice and one qualifying session.
The second qualifying session came to an end after 11 laps when a component failure inside the engine caused the bike to stop, his time was only good enough for 23 position on grid but more importantly a busy night for the mechanics and Alex would have to run a completely different engine and set up for Sundays race.
Thanks again to David Wodsworth of specialised Coatings, Halifax. He had again came to watch Alex race and Again had been press ganged into helping with the spanners (getting a bit of a habit that). Stephan, David and I worked on into the night to have the bike ready to race the next day.
In morning warm up Alex commented on the different feeling the bike had but as this was the only set up we had left, he had to use it in the race.

Again a good result for us with nine rounds of this championships gone and the experiences we have had.
We sort of know the placing to expect, 15th again, this time in front of the group of riders he finished behind at Snetterton, we always look for the silver lining and one thing that comes out is that Malaguti are now tying for second place in the constructors championship.
With only one week to the next round at Cadwell Park My least favourite track of the Championship it is going to be a very busy week ahead.
This is hard to say but with all that is going on we may give that one a miss.
