Alex Gault 2004 - Easter Weekend of Ups and Downs...........................................................................Back To Index

First off was a New Era club meeting at Cadwell Park on Easter Sunday.

A disaster!!

On only the second lap of practice, Alex had a BIG OFF after a coming together with another bike going through the chicane; this resulted in a trip to the Cadwell Park Circuit Medical Centre and then a trip to Louth Accident and Emergency with him having a suspected chipped bone in his ankle.

He was given the all clear as it turned out to be only badly sprained.

If nothing else I learned a lot from this experience, but I can't print it here.

Then on the road home and with Alex making a complete recovery (after the Doctor
said " Get out of that wheel chair you GIRL!" we called at Three Sisters for the third round
of the LCRRC's Conti Cup, Great weather and great racing from all grids made for a very enjoyable day.

In race one for Alex, on the front row of the grid he split the two "John Mossey" bikes (I say that as I know neither Luke, Jamie or Sabre Sport would condone Cheating, It must be soul destroying for the other competitors who are trying to contest this championship to see such fast bikes in front of them and surely not what this type of championship is about?)

Luke got the best start as they left the line Alex in second, Jay Dunn third and Jamie in forth, by the end of lap one Jamie had passed Jay and Alex for second place the front three stretched out a lead and that was how it ended with some great racing behind between Aaron, Jay, Sean and Johnny.

Race two, and a repeat of race one although Alex was slightly closer to Jamie, when it looked like Jamie lost the front end going into the fast left hander and sprawling Jamie and his bike across the track in front of Alex.

It didn't look like he had much choice in the matter but Alex chose to hit the bike instead if Jamie, the race was red flagged Alex returned to the start line but Jamie returned in the ambulance, he was later given the all clear and the accident was put down to an engine seizure, which ruled out Jamie from the rest of the proceedings.

In the restart, Alex thought he'd try and start in THIRD gear, surprisingly enough, this saw him crawl of the line as every one shot by him, in to the first corner last! A good recovery however saw him make his way through the pack and into second spot before the final flag fell.

Race three, Luke didn't need to win this one to win the meeting it was obvious from his lap times he was not as serious until Alex got passed him, that was when we really seen the power of his bike, only a very brave and determined ride from Alex kept Luke behind, another good race developed behind between the Conti regulars with Azman coming out on top.

At the end of the day free practice gave Alex the chance to get out on his 125 and Alex Heaton who had come along with us the chance to get on a 50GP bike, great day loads of track time can't wait till they are back there during the school holidays in July and are looking forward to Wombwell when this club visits there on the 24th/25th of this month.

P.S. Alex's Conti bike is up for sale, it is also open to being inspected without a protest fee being lodged and we will also swap individual bikes for races as long as it is agreed the cost will be met for any damage which may be caused.
