Alex Gault 2003 - Alex Gault Racing, July Newsletter.............................................................................Back To Index

First off, Minimoto

Alex puts on the style but wheres his usual helmetRound 5 of the British Championship was a bit of a nightmare for us, in one way and in another the best meeting of the year. The nightmare part surrounded his Super Class bike.

I just could not get it to run properly, The Raceland's circuit is next to the sea, and there is a difference in height from one part of the circuit to the other, I put this forward as my excuse for my inability to sort the problem with the carburetion (good mechanic wanted, apply within).

That aside it was a fantastic meeting, a stronger grid in the Junior Super Class saw the front row filled with multiple championship winning riders, for Alex to finish in second place over all, was a completely different result than the one I had envisaged before the start of racing.

In the Classic Class his weight advantage on this tight and technical circuit gave him a comfortable win from last years champion Barry Mantel.

He now leads the classic class and is sitting second in the Super class.

Onto Big Bikes

He got his first proper go on a 125 Gp bike, He loved it "Far better Brakes, Far better Handling and when the engine comes on the pipe it's like the star ship "Enterprise" going into warp drive" unfortunately he will have to wait till next year to race it.

As our appeal to the ACU for dispensation to race was not allowed.

He also got a go on the "Conti" type of bike (these are small 50cc Gp type of bikes made especially for the job and run on scooter tyres) thanks to the importers Phoenix racing, at Rowrah. Where his wee brother Ryan was racing his ZPF minimoto. He did enjoy the racing (he took part in two races of the UK Conti Cup, but said it was hard work.

This was confirmed when he took of his crash helmet off, his face was the same colour as his hair (Bright red).

Then the same weekend Thanks to sponsors BEK he got a go on the METRAKIT Gp (which is the Spanish version of the French Conti) around the Three Sisters racetrack, now he did love this. He has liked this bike since he first saw it a few months ago, but this was the first time he has had the chance to get out on track with it.

JRA Championship

Now I know I'm his Dad, I try not to be too biased, so how can I describe his performance here?

"ON FIRE!!!!"

He won both races comfortably, broke the formula 80, lap record by over 2.5 seconds.

The first lap with an average speed over 70mph. Timed at 1.16.22. / 70.85 mph.

And set a new race record completing the 8-lap race in just 10.38.25 sec.

He now leads the championship with 31 points from Alex Heaton on 26 points. Heaton has now moved to Formula 125. The next lad in the championship is Matthew Hoyle on 18 points. With Dan Knight on 17 points.
